My plan, and how I need scholarships

Send to friendSend to friend

My name is Maggie Steinberg and I am hoping to attend Kutztown University to recieve a dual major in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I love to write and I love working with children. I have interned at kindergartens, daycares, a third grade class, and a second grade class. The interest I have is to help kids learn and to find new ways to teach them. When the children I eventually hope to teach go out in the world, I hope to help them be able to make it. I want to teach them and have it be reflected in their good character. Also I have danced all my life, yet I do not intend to major in dance at college. I am interested in scholarships because I have a middle class family, with only one parent working and it would help my whole family greatly. Because I am the third child I would get less financial aid than my brother because of him now being adult. My older sister is also an adult. Yet, they both still live in our family home and I have a younger sister as well, so the income is still distributed throughout all of our needs. The scholarships would be a blessing, and I am willing to try any scholarship that would help me succeed in helping others.

A Program for Dancers and Writers

Maggie,

Thanks for stopping by the site! I wanted to pass along a scholarship programs that's great for dancers and writers (and those in other artistic fields). It's called the "youngARTS" program (formerly called the "Arts Recognition and Talent Search").

Each year, more than half a million dollars is awarded. You can learn more at the following link:

Sounds like it might be a great program for you!

Money to Fulfill Seminary Dream

My name is Susan, and my dream is to be a Marital and Family Therapist. I plan to attend Fuller Theological Seminary, and it is a bit expensive, but worth it! The total amount I will need for the 2 year program is seventy-eight thousand dollars ($78,000.00). It would be great if I could get a paid internship in the process, because I have to have 3,000 hours of internship work plus the MFT to take the California State Licensing Exam. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. BTW, I have to attend an accredited seminary, and Fuller's is the best in the area. Thanks, in advance for your help.

Video Animation Major

My son is attending a school in Chicago, working on degree in Video Animation. Goes to school year round, so that he gets done in three years instead of four. Money is extremely tight. Have obtained Pell Grants and Stratford Loan. Costs about 25,000 per year. However it will cost almost 90,000 by the time he graduates. Would like to get more grants and scholarships for him. Any suggestions?

FastWeb.com--The FREE scholarship directory

Hello.

The most important national database for scholarships is FastWeb.com. Its's free. You'll find many private organizations that will try to separate you from your money as they "make it easier" for you to find scholarships.

Caveat emptor: buyer beware.

Go to FastWeb, and create a profile, and the bots search the database for scholarships that would be appropriate for you. I also advise my clients to set up more than one profile, with different parameters--that fit you well, but that have different emphases. For example, you might have one profile that emphasizes your sports abilities and interests, in addition to your academic abilities, while another profile is focused more on your intended major and your academic interests.

Also, PLEASE keep in mind that external scholarships represent only abuot 3% of all the scholarships awarded for college in the United States. The other 97% is provided *by the colleges themselves*!

So developing a strategy that will help you pull down more money from this pool of 97% of the total scholarship pool can be MUCH more productive than spending time chasing that 3%.

Well, here is my story on needing money

I stress over money more than anything. The second thing that causes me stress is having to depend on other people, so naturally, I feel that paying for college is my responsibility. I am a female, and therefore do not make as much as most guys do, and I live in a town with very few, and very low-paying jobs. My father is a truck driver, never finished college, and my mother is a house wife who also never finished college. My mom has scoliosis enough she cannot get a job, but she is not so far considered disabled. I would be the first of my siblings and one of the few in my family to finish college if I make it. I am always busy, but 90% of my schedule is dedicated to helping others our with their needs. Including running errands for my family. I am 21 years old, I have two degrees from a community college (AA and ALS), and am now at a four year university where I have recently found myself playing 'cat-and-mouse' trying to get my FASFA to go through. It just went through TODAY, more than half way through the semester, and to my shock, it does not cover nearly enough. I am grateful that I have it and that it covers a little less than half, but this is suppose to be a relatively inexpensive college and yet FAFSA is not enough. I cannot join the military because I have severe allergies and asthma, I am borderline dyslexic but not enough to have anyone help me pay for college, and even with my 3.5+ college GPA on a 4.0 scale, I still cannot manage to get a scholarship. I have applied for many and was applying for one when I came across this site. The only scholarships I have ever been able to receive are choir scholarships, and since I am not majoring in music, they barely cover books. I just feel like no matter how much I help everyone around me and no matter how well I do in school, I will always be just above average, but not enough to raise alarm or get me college money. I am so concerned that I am considering getting a college loan, finish this semester, then just work until I can pay off my debts before I start college again. I just really don't know what else I can do.

Any scholarships for future teachers?

I am sam and i have always dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher. Is there any scholarships i can apply for that is specificlly for this field?

Junior at Marquette in Need of Scholarships

I am a junior at Marquette and I need money to finish out my last years. My parent had to stop working to take care of our 82 year old Aunt. Temporary sacrifice but it is hurting me. I filed for hardship assistance but I still need more resources.
