Retired and returning to school

My dilema is simply complicated.

I am a 52 year old, retired Correctional Captain from the NC D.O.C. and am an Instructor for D.O.C.C. (Jailers), D.O.C. (Prisons), and Law Enforcement, with 3 Community Colleges.

I am currently enrolled in Criminal Justice A.S. curriculm due to neglecting education while working to build a rewarding career. Now that I am in school is there any assistance available for OLD people who are RETIRED and make TOO much Money??

I worked hard to get where I am, and my wife likes to keep a tight grip on my money..LOL.. and I was just hoping that there was some hope for the OLD FOLKS.....and why do those books cost so much?? (have you ever read any of them?)

Don't give up

Hi Shotty,

Let's be clear.... 52 is NOT old!

Okay, I feel better now.

You've got an interesting "simply complicated dilema" and I wish I had some answers. (Hey, I don't want to create any false hope here!)

Ben's still out traveling the continent spreading the good news of the City of College Dreams. When he returns to Portland, I know he'll be responding to the great posts we've been receiving.

Check back soon to see what he, and others, have to say. I just wanted to chime in now on the age question!

Completed the registration

Thanks Karylinn, but as I walked around the campus', I noticed that I am really NOT like the younger generation.LOL

I did complete the first semester registration and am scheduled in 6 courses and did some searching the net and found several sites for used texts, which was a relief.

I just feel it a little demeaning when retired people wish to go or return to school who have a balanced income, are not afforded the same opportunites as the youngers, or in California, the Illegal Aliens. (Political satire)

It seems if we OLD people played our cards right and worked hard and advanced in a career, met all our financial obligations along the way and established the retirement plan without home mortgage or vehicle payments, we are not treated as equals, because we make too much money.

But Thank God I am an OLD person, and have time now to take advantage of earning a formal education and am actually looking at possibly chasing the Bachelors degree.

Thanks again Karylinn,(Nice Name Spelling) and look forward to any advice anyone has......Shotty
