I recently reviewed the Oprah show on scholarships and I was interested in which website or where you went to start your search for scholarships?

Also, are all of the scholarships writing essays?

Scholarship Search

Hello Degiorgio899,
There are millions of scholarships out there and the best place to begin your scholarship search is going to be somewhere you can be matched to the scholarships for which you qualify.

Go to www.scholarships.com and begin your scholarship search. Just spending 20 to 30 minutes creating a profile could help you get thousands of dollars in scholarships and save you dozens of hours of searching. If you have any questions, just contact us at feedback[at]scholarships[dot]com. Good luck!

Scholarship Searches

There are many websites that offer scholarship search services. The most important tipn is to never pay for a scholarsip search or scholarship application.

As a first step in the scholarship search process I really recommend taking some time to get to know yourself. I know....sounds cheesy. It can save you a bit of time in the long haul and make it easier for you to decide for which scholarsips to apply.

Create an activity resume of ALL the things you have participated in since you started high school. Brainstorm with family and friends to make sure the list is comprehensive. Include dates of participation and the number of hours completed. Include activities connected to your school, as well as, community activities. If you did an exchange trip to another state or country don't forget these.

Once you have an activity resume that is very neat, polished and comprehensive put together a very brief profile of yourself. Where were you born? What is your ethnic heritage? What is your GPA and class rank? Get a copy of your transcripts so you know all the courses you have completed and the grades received.

Now that you know yourself....start completing profiles online, visit your guidance office and public library, talk with your employer or your parents' employer to find all the possible scholarship opportunities.

Good luck!!

Scholarships for non-traditional women/single parent

Where can I look for scholarship information as I am a divorced 48 year old woman with one child still at home. I am currently in my first year, working on a BS degree. I have been doing online classes but am switching to a local University and will attend one evening a week.

Financial Aid and Unemployment

What can I do to alert colleges to the fact that my income as will be reported on my FAFSA for 2009 - 2010 will be substantially more than the actual income that we will have for the 2009 - 2010 school year as I have recently been downsized and am not certain of future employment? This situation has created a drastic difference in 2008 income and 2009 income (which is what we will be working with as our daughter begins college).

Financial aid and Unemployment

Our family has the same problem as you, katonline. Any advice is appreciated!

Financial Aid and Unemployment

Our family will have a 60% decrease in income in 2009 from 2008...Is there a way to let the Fed's know this when we fill out form in January.
Thanks....
